Job Description:

Follows CDC isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs hand hygiene according to policy, and enforces safety regulations. Exemplifies AdventHealth’s core values of Keep Me Safe, Make It Easy, Love Me, and Own It through behavior. Other duties as assigned. Assists in the delivery of patient care by performing tasks under the direction of a registered nurse. Documents and reports all procedures accurately according to department policy. Participates in obtaining nursing history and evaluates age-appropriate behavior, motor skills, and physiological norms, reporting abnormalities to the registered nurse. Performs treatments according to policy and procedure, providing care appropriate to age, mobility, acuity, and culture, and functions appropriately in clinical emergencies. Participates in practice changes from performance improvement activities and supports quality standards and initiatives. Evaluates patients' developmental level, identifies increased physical/emotional dependency needs, and assesses the availability of support systems. Exhibits a desire to learn and upgrades skills.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Must demonstrate ability and understanding of the age-specific care requirements of geriatric, adult, adolescent, and pediatric patient populations, including appropriate selection of patient equipment, communication, and safety needs.
• Requires close attention and mental effort in executing multiple assigned duties, such as recording blood pressures, input & output (I & O), obtaining and documenting blood glucose monitor results, and distributing and collecting dietary trays.
• Ability to float between assignments and adapt to varying healthcare settings.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance with all safety and infection control policies to prevent injury to patients, employees, or self.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to document information accurately.
• Demonstrated ability to remain calm and focused in stressful and/or emotionally charged situations.
• Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to be highly detail-oriented.
• Demonstrated customer service skills with a patient-centric approach.
• Basic hands-on computer knowledge and working knowledge of using computers for data entry.
• Ability to move or lift patients and equipment, and willingness to work a flexible workweek including weekends, nights, and overtime as required.
• Commitment to purposeful hourly rounding and efficient, effective interaction with a wide variety of individuals.
• Knowledge of and ability to perform accuchecks and hemoccults, obtain vital signs correctly, and knowledge of normal parameters for vital signs for age-specific populations.
• Ability to remove peripheral IV catheters, empty Foley bags, JP’s, and hemovacs.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information in understandable terms to all levels of staff.
• Effective computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to work in a matrix-management environment to achieve organizational goals.
• Requires judgment to ask for supervisory input when needed and adherence to efficient time management and utilization of patient resources.
• Interfaces with fellow employees, physicians, and patients continually, and with external contacts to establish good relationships with community agencies.
• Works in a modern well-equipped environment with exposure to bloodborne pathogens; may encounter aggressive and violent outbursts and physical harm from non-compliant patients.
• May be required to work weekends, irregular hours, and holidays, with the possibility of extended hours. Subject to prolonged extensive or considerable standing/walking and occasionally lifting supplies/equipment. Personal protective equipment required.
• Must meet physical requirements per hospital standard and have accurate typing skills.
• Medical terminology knowledge preferred.

Education:
• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]

Field of Study:
• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing program and has completed the first semester of Nursing Fundamentals OR has completed an accredited nursing program within one (1) year and has not obtained their license for Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Work Experience:
• 1+ experience as a nursing assistant [Preferred]
