Role Description

The Staff Virtual Doula is responsible for providing essential education, emotional support, and physical comfort to expecting and new families via Pomelo’s proprietary client software. As an employee of Pomelo and reporting into Pomelo’s Clinical Team, you will operate as a key member of the client’s care team, following established Pomelo protocols and best practices to improve birth outcomes and empower families during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum year.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Deliver evidence-based perinatal, labor & delivery, and postpartum support to clients in a manner consistent with Pomelo standards, in a virtual setting.
  • Create personalized care plans under Pomelo guidelines to support birthing people through their pregnancy and postpartum journeys.
  • Connect with families from diverse backgrounds virtually, using Pomelo-provided telehealth platforms, video conferencing tools, and electronic documentation systems for client records. 
  • Confirm client’s eligibility in program, communicate program guidelines and expectations, and communicate regularly and proactively with clients via SMS and phone calls to engage, educate, and support them.
  • Match clients to local in-person doulas, as appropriate, leveraging Pomelo’s doula network and local doula recruitment. Facilitate client handoffs with matched in-person doulas.
  • Document all client interactions in a timely manner, adhering to Pomelo’s billing practices and guidelines.
  • Leverage Pomelo’s technology suite to improve efficiency.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, supervision sessions, and professional development activities as required by the company.
  • Adhere to a scheduled work assignment that ensures continuity of care for your dedicated caseload.

Schedule Options

  • Shift 1: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9am - 9pm ET
  • Shift 2: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, 9am - 9pm ET

Requirements

  • Hold certification / training as a birth and/or full spectrum doula from a recognized organization.
  • 5+ years of experience working as a doula with in-depth understanding of pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to connect with diverse families.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with clients in a virtual setting.
  • Interest in learning to use new technologies and adapt to new ways of working.
  • Ability to work a schedule that includes an evening/weekend on-call component.
