Ad Platforms is responsible for Disney’s industry-leading ad technology and products – driving advertising performance, innovation, and value in Disney’s sports, news, and entertainment content, across all media platforms.

Job Summary:

As a Software Engineer on the Ad Platforms team, you will focus on creating complex user interfaces with
rich interactions in modern reactive JavaScript libraries, tools, and runtimes to engineer and abstract reusable, and testable UI components and applications.

You will be an important part of a lean culture where we’ll be looking for you to collaborate with the backend and product teams to build optimized experiences for our end-users. The right person should also blend their engineering abilities with a sense of pixel-perfect craftsmanship, turning user stories, wireframes, and prototypes into fully functional UI, highly optimized components and applications.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Build features, maintain existing code, and fix bugs in JavaScript/TypeScript and React
  • Implement best practices to continually increase performance and scalability
  • Collaborate with the team to peer review code and suggest optimizations.
  • Advocate for quality through innovation, curiosity and thoughtful debate.
  • Collaborate with team and peers to design complex applications, and peer review code
  • Explore new technologies, and suggest additions to the existing tech stack
  • Investigate and help resolve any production issues from end user (UI) to service layer and work to prevent them
  • Work with project managers to ensure that all project deliverables are on time and high quality

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

Basic Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Engineering, or another technical field
  • Have 3+ years of experience in web application development or software engineering in a large enterprise environment using modern frameworks
  • Expertise in HTML & CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript and React Library
  • Experience with Tailwindcss or SCSS
  • Experience with Node.js and Next.js or Express.js
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks (e.g. Jest, Mocha, Vitest).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented and able to deliver project tasks on time.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Highly motivated, self-starting individual.
  • Have a track record of championing quality engineering: be adamant that all UI code is accessible and written in a way that can be tested
  • Have an understanding of browsers, devices, and other user agent interoperability and compatibility concerns
  • Have experience working with high-performing teams using Agile and Lean methodologies and frameworks
  • Be a perfectionist who makes sure every pixel is in the right place
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Care about your craft and have opinions about the “right” way to do things with technology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Highly motivated, self-starting individual.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and ability to use standard software development lifecycle (SDLC) tools such as Jira and Confluence, version control systems (e.g. Git), and CI/CD tools and pipelines.
  • Experience working with vendor teams to deliver high quality results
  • Strong curiosity about how Disney delivers the Magic and a desire to be a part of it

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $114,900 - $154,100 per year, in San Francisco, CA is $125,800 - $168,700 per year, in Seattle, WA is $120,300 - $161,300 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
