Job Summary

Walgreens is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Remote Pharmacy Benefit & Insurance Verification Specialist to join our growing healthcare team. This role is essential in ensuring that our patients receive accurate, timely, and seamless access to their medications. The specialist will be responsible for verifying insurance coverage, identifying patient benefits, resolving coverage issues, and supporting the pharmacy team in delivering excellent patient care. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough insurance and pharmacy benefit verifications for patients using various databases and payer systems.

  • Confirm prescription coverage, co-pay amounts, prior authorization requirements, and formulary details.

  • Communicate effectively with insurance providers, patients, and pharmacy staff to resolve coverage issues.

  • Accurately document verification results in the pharmacy system and maintain comprehensive records.

  • Collaborate with pharmacists and healthcare providers to support patient adherence and access to medications.

  • Monitor and track prior authorizations, appeals, and other insurance-related requests.

  • Identify potential issues with insurance coverage and recommend solutions to optimize patient access.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance policies, payer guidelines, and pharmacy benefit trends.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associates or Bachelors degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.

  • Prior experience in pharmacy benefit verification, insurance verification, or healthcare administration strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy insurance terminology, prior authorization processes, and prescription coverage rules.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and pharmacy management systems.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.

Experience

  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in insurance verification, pharmacy benefits, or a healthcare-related administrative role.

  • Experience with pharmacy software, insurance portals, and electronic medical records (EMR) is highly desirable.

Working Hours
