Function
The City of Hampton is looking for some attendants to assist in Fleet Services as entry-level mechanics within the heavy off road shop, supporting efficient daily operations through routine maintenance, minor repairs, and response to road calls. Working under general supervision and following established procedures, the role receives assignments from multiple sources and contributes to maintaining consistent workflow and equipment readiness across the shop.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or successful completion of GED.
  • Vocational, technical, or trade school training in Automotive Mechanics or Repair preferred.
  • Must have general automotive knowledge to include changing tires, fluids and basic car maintenance.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements
The incumbent is considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
