The Town of Natick's - Collector’s Office is seeking a professional, detail-oriented, and customer-focused individual to fill the Administrative Assistant position. This front-facing role is responsible for working directly with the general public and delivering exceptional customer service. Under the direction of the Collector/Treasurer and the Assistant Collector, the Administrative Assistant will support daily operations within a busy municipal environment.

This position requires exceptional accuracy, strong cash-handling skills, and the ability to work effectively at a high-traffic service window. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.

In addition to processing real estate, personal property, motor vehicle, and water payments—along with other payments made by cash or check—the position requires technical and clerical proficiency related to billing procedures.

The preferred candidate will have an Associate’s Degree in Business or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of experience in a detail-oriented work environment. Candidates must maintain confidentiality, work well independently and collaboratively, and ideally possess prior experience or knowledge of principles related to collections, interest, and penalties.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Excel
  • Strong communication, customer service, and time management skills
  • Working knowledge of municipal departmental operations
  • Minimum of two years of administrative work experience (preferred)
  • Prior experience with principles related to collections, interest, and penalties
  • Ability to provide coverage at a busy Collector’s Window and demonstrate strong cash-handling skills
  • Cash management experience (required)
  • MUNIS system experience (highly preferred)
  • General knowledge of municipal government operations (preferred)

Education Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred.

Compensation

Starting rate: $26.5265 per hour at Step 1. The full pay scale ranges from $26.5265 – $31.8887 per hour, with step increases outlined in the union agreement.

This full-time position includes a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as participation in the Massachusetts defined benefit retirement system and optional deferred compensation plan.
