Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) invites applications for an Accountant to support the Laboratory’s financial operations and reporting functions. This position plays an integral role to assist in preparing, monitoring, and analyzing month-end closings and periodic financial statements; preparing and reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations; participating in annual and special audits; monitoring capital and project budgets and fixed assets; and supporting cash reporting and other core accounting functions.
 
Position Responsibilities:

· Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

· Prepare, review, and post journal entries; perform balance sheet and account reconciliations.

· Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.

· Participate in annual financial audits and other internal or external reviews; prepare schedules and supporting documentation.

· Monitor and manage project and capital accounting, including budget tracking and reporting.

· Maintain fixed asset records, including capitalization, depreciation, and periodic review.

· Review grant-related journal entries for accuracy and proper classification, in coordination with grants administration.

· Perform bank and cash account reconciliations; assist with cash reporting and analysis.

· Support internal controls by following and helping maintain accounting policies and procedures.

· Assist with special projects and process improvements as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. Education:

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

Experience:

· Minimum of one to five years of accounting experience.

· Not-for-profit or higher education/research environment experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills Required:

· Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and internal controls.

· Experience working within an ERP environment (Workday, Lawson, or similar systems preferred).

· Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications; ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

· Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

· Clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively with colleagues across departments.

· Self-motivated, collaborative team player capable of working independently with appropriate supervision.
